Fall has been teasing us with a random breeze and slightly cooler mornings, and even though it doesn’t quite feel like it yet, the new season will be here soon! For our family, fall means three birthdays, football games, Halloween, Thanksgiving, pumpkin patches, and more time outside. Month after month of celebrations galore, and we are all in!
A routine that we incorporate into our baby’s nursery is changing out our books on display for a new holiday or season. It’s a fun way to celebrate whatever occasion is on the horizon while refreshing a new set of books into our reading rotation. Fostering a love of reading is one of my main goals as a mom, so even though Sully is only eleven months old, we read often. Changing up our shelves and decorating them adds an extra touch of festivity and makes grabbing a book over a movie or toy more natural. We’re doing all we can now to inspire that magic that reading a book brings!
Here are a few of our favorites broken down by topic:

If you’re looking to build a seasonal book display, all you need are books! We’ve recently made it a weekly habit to attend story time at the library, so we’ve beefed up our shelves through checking out several new ones each Tuesday. We also tell people who are wanting to buy Sully a gift that a book is always welcome. Another fun way to slowly build a book collection is to gift each other a picture book in the theme of whatever occasion you are celebrating; for almost the same price as a card, you can get a book! Our favorite places to buy books are TJ Maxx (which always has a seasonal display at discounted prices), Target, All Aboard, and Books-A-Million. Facebook Marketplace and hand-me-downs from friends are a great way to add to your collection as well.
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.” -Anna Quindlen
