Bubble Snakes

We don’t have a yard, we can only stay at Hickory Dickory for so long, and this Spring Break weather is AMAZING, so I’m pulling out all the stops and working hard to earn my “fun mom” card this week! Today we made Bubble Snakes! I’m counting this as my St. Patrick’s Day craft because some snakes are green and we used green food coloring. 🙂 Totally counts, right?

I found the idea here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKH5UFaXogQ

I read in my Google search that Corn Syrup helps thicken up the solution and makes for longer snakes.

Here’s the recipe I used:

3 tablespoons dish soap
3 tablespoons Karo syrup
9 ounces of water

You mix it up and let it sit. The longer you can let it sit undisturbed (up to 24 hours), the thicker the solution will be. I live in real life and my kids were so pumped about this, so I only had the two hours during nap time to let the solution sit.

While the solution was sitting, I found two water bottles, cut the ends off, cut up two of my husband’s socks that no longer have their mates, and used two hair ties to secure the socks on the bottles. Y’all it’s so easy and so fast.

Because I wanted the snakes to be green, I used food coloring. If I could go back and do this again, I would probably use an old rag and not socks because the food coloring rolled right off those bad boys onto my floor. Who knew? So once I got green off my floors, I applied the food coloring to the socks over the sink and of course it absorbed straight into the socks.

Then the fun part!

The boys had a blast dipping the socks into the bubbles and making their snakes! We all enjoyed this for hours!

If you’ve made this before and have tips on how to get the rainbow effect for the food coloring, let me know! I’d love tips on how to improve it!
