Spring 2022 Family Events in Auburn and Opelika

Warmer weather, blooming flowers and trees, longer daylight hours, and Easter are some of the many things to enjoy this spring. Our local area is hosting many fun family events and cultural festivals that you won’t want to miss. Check out the links below for more information and registration (if applicable) for each event.

Friday, April 1st

11th Annual Going Blue For Autism Join the Opelika community from  6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Lee County Courthouse Square to celebrate Autism Awareness Month with the annual Going Blue for Autism and safety resource event. All are welcome! Wear blue, come ready to do some chalk art, bubbles, live music, meet and greet with first responders, and more!

Saturday, April 2nd

2022 Nerf Gun Battle Bring your Nerf guns and ammo to Spring Villa Park in Opelika for this event which is free and open to the public. Ages 6-8 will play from 9:00 – 10:30 am, followed by ages 9-12 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. In the event of rain, the battle will be moved indoors at the Opelika Sportsplex.

Friday, April 8th

Inaugural Global Community Day Festival The purpose of this festival is to bring international and domestic communities together to learn and experience the global culture, history, food, and related opportunities. The kick-off event will be held at Jule Collins Smith Museum from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. The main event will feature “Taste of the World” and a trade fair and will take place at the Opelika Sportsplex from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

Saturday, April 9th

Breakfast with The Bunny New this year is an opportunity for kids ages 0-3 to dine with the Easter Bunny in conjunction with an egg hunt and other fun activities at Kiesel Park in Auburn. Tickets must be reserved online in advance and are $5 each for all participants. There will be two seatings, 8:00 am and 10:00 am, with an egg hunt at 9:30 am for all guests.

2022 Empty Bowls This popular fundraising event that benefits the Food Bank of East Alabama will be hosted by the city of Opelika at the Denson Rec Center from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Tickets are $10 and include a handcrafted bowl, soup, entertainment, and raffle prizes.

Eggcellent Easter Scavenger Hunt Follow the City of Auburn on Facebook and Instagram for daily clues to be posted from April 9th – 13th. Clues will lead participants to a city park or facility where an Easter Egg with a QR code has been hidden. Upon finding the egg, scan the code with your smartphone to discover another clue. After following all of the day’s clues, participants will be prompted to fill out an online form to be eligible for the prize drawing. Participate each day for more chances to win!

Monday, April 11th – Friday, April 15th

Adult Easter Egg Hunt Find special eggs throughout the city of Opelika by following clues posted on @opelikaparks Facebook and Instagram. Find an egg and return it to the Opelika SportsPlex for a prize.

Thursday, April 14th

Flashlight Egg Hunt Starting at 7:30 pm at Moore Stadium in Opelika, 3rd through 5th graders will hunt for eggs in the dark! Bring a flashlight and a basket. Look for special prizes and golden eggs. Free and open to the public.

Friday, April 15th

Underwater Egg Hunt Kids ages 6-10 can hunt for eggs in the Opelika SportsPlex pool and receive prizes for their efforts. The hunt will start at 6:00 pm with free swim to follow until 8:00 pm. Cost is $4 per visitor and free for Sportsplex members. All participants must pre-register at the Sportsplex by Monday, April 11th.

Saturday, April 16th

42nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt Ages 10 and under can register to participate in this year’s hunt for thousands of eggs scattered across Kiesel park in age-specific hunting grounds. The start times for each age group are staggered starting at 10:00 am. Families can also take pictures with the Easter Bunny and enjoy music and inflatables. In the event of rain, the event will take place on Sunday, April 17th starting at 2:00 pm.

Easter on the Square Opelika’s family event will be held from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Lee County Courthouse Square. An egg hunt will take place for kids 8 and under. This event is free and open to the public.

Saturday, April 30th

Auburn CityFest Enjoy live music; food, arts and crafts vendors, nonprofit organizations, children’s activities, special appearances, and much more.  This FREE outdoor event is held rain or shine at Kiesel Park from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
