Activities for Kids: 6 Quarantine Sensory Play Ideas

0

We are all living in uncertain times where we can’t go and explore or socialize as freely as we once did. We may need some kids activities to keep ours minds off this pandemic.

Our kids LOVE to be active and experience new things, however these days we are mostly having to social distance ourselves. We can’t take our kids out as often as we used to, but we can come up with some creative and fun experiences while we are home! Here are 6 quarantine sensory play ideas that I put together for my two year old. I hope you enjoy these! Maybe this can encourage you to come up with your own kids activities as well!

Construction sensory bin: Cheerios, fake rocks, construction trucks, spoons, and other tools to make it interesting  (toilet paper roll, measuring cup)

Button Sensory Bin: Colored buttons, measuring cups and spoons, and colorful containers

PomPom Sort: Colored Pom balls, muffin tin, Tupperware container, and tongs(or any other tool like spoons)

Pipe-Cleaner Poke: Colorful pipe cleaners, and a strainer

Letter Match: Cut pieces of paper and write letters (atleast 2 of each letter) on them. Tape pieces of paper to bottom of muffin tin. Instruct your child how to match the letter and then let them play!

Pouring Station: Fill a pitcher or other container halfway with water. Encourage your child to pour the water into different containers without spilling. (You’ll want to do this in a water safe place, like outside)

All of these activities use items that I found around the house. They are easy ways to put new activities in front of your child so they can explore colors, textures, tools, and creative ideas for playtime. These 6 quarantine sensory bin ideas help your child to learn new skills. They also get to have fun while not having to abide to a strict “right” way of doing something. It’s a time for your child to explore their abilities and encourages them to learn freely without expectation.

Bonus tip: I have two kids under two years old, so I put my two year old in the pack n play for some of these activities. It makes it easy to clean up and he is happy to be away from his little 10 month old brother for a few minutes.

I gave these ideas along with a few others over on Instagram, but I’ll be sharing more of these on the blog here soon!

Happy Quarantine Playtime! If you enjoyed this, you should check out our event page and look out for some outside the home kids activities coming soon!
