Shopping Locally

Auburn and Opelika have some of the most amazing local crafters and artisans. From candles at Oliver Henry to local coffee roasted by Mama Mochas or Ross House to jewelry and pottery, the opportunities to support our neighbors are endless.

My favorite jewelry? The simple pieces crafted by my friend Emma Jane Hunt. Favorite French press? Mama Mochas Ethiopian Noir. Favorite earl grey? Ross House’s earl grey with lavender. Favorite whimsical read? The cookbook by the Mystic Order of East Alabama Fiction Writers. I could go on and on.

I don’t mind spending a few more dollars or navigating parking lots in order to support local businesses. Many of our local business owners are moms, dads, single parents, veterans, and people trying to make their dream a reality. If one can play a small part in their success, then I consider one a good neighbor.

Auburn and Opelika have fabulous dream chasers and talent. It makes me happy to see them succeed and expand. So, support local business, navigate the annoying parking situations, spend the extra $2, and share local finds with your friends and family.

Let’s encourage local entrepreneurs to chase their dreams by actively supporting them. Yes, Amazon Prime is fabulous (and convenient) but when you can, choose local. There’s a family nearby that appreciates it.
