Teachers

The new school year is right around the corner and all of my anxious mom feelings come back each time as we near a new year: Will they get the right teacher for them? Will they have some friends in their class? Will kids be mean? What age are girls their meanest?

Both of my parents were teachers, so I remember everything that went into preparing for the new school year. It was a lot of work and – of course – I was just roaming the halls with other TK’s (teacher kids) waiting for all of the work to be done.

Last year my children were blessed and we had some of the best teachers ever! For example, one of my girls doesn’t have the best self-talk narrative. Her teacher focused so much on how to frame things and thoughts. She was very creative in how she got the kids on board with using “hashtags” and my daughter was in love. She felt big and even though she may not know what a hashtag was- she was all about quotes and being positive! That one small thing that wasn’t even in the curriculum taught my girl sooo much and I am thankful.

My youngest child had a wonderful, loving, and caring teacher to start his school career. That year was so important because it was to set the tone for the rest of his elementary school career. You know when you just look at that person and they are the epitome of what a kindergarten or pre-school teacher should be!

My oldest girl had a teacher who would challenge her- sometimes it’s hard to watch and see your child get challenged. I loved how much she grew and she adored her tough and challenging teacher! You know they are learning when they are quoting their teacher! They are spending most of the day with their teachers- not me!

I guess I feel the purpose of writing about my children’s teachers is that I am so thankful. They learn so much from them. There is always something new that I might not have thought about teaching them and then I notice they learned something new! I always think about what my mom used to say about spending time with a friend’s family- it’s good to see how another family “runs”. I feel it’s that same thing with a classroom because it can feel like a little family for that school year. Some teachers even treat their classes like a family or team atmosphere. It can be about something bigger that they are learning at school not just about the classwork and I’m ok with that!
