“Embrace the chaos,” they said. “This is only a season,” they said. I have spent weeks, if not months, embracing and reevaluating our “chaos.”
Overcommitments, scheduled weekends, the plague (okay, the flu, forgive my exaggeration), board meetings, OT and kid’s gym for our son, a broken fridge, piles of clean and unfolded laundry, work, appointments… does this sound familiar? This was week one of our new year.
I have some ideas for 2019: say “no” to things that really are not important, say “yes” to things that will create memories and provide fulfillment, more date nights, less screen time, more time on the floor with LEGOS and my son, limits for myself, improve self care (hello massages and spin classes), fewer comparisons (comparison is truly the thief of joy), more reading, and set small goals.
One of my goals this year is to finally achieve the southern equivalent of climbing Mount Everest: master the homemade biscuit. I can bake a mean scone, homemade bread, jams, and pesto but biscuits? My grandmother would consider them an insult to White Lilly flour and butter.
Another non-chaotic goal for this year is to attempt to keep my cute little pots of succulents alive. They’re still kicking four weeks in. I thought I lost a sweet little green gem, but after a day in the sun, it perked back up (thanks to Rex Ponder, the local legend, for the advice)!
“Embrace the chaos,” more like “reduce the chaos.” I want to spend less time embracing busy schedules and spend more time enjoying the simple moments in life, like conquering homemade biscuits. In the meantime, Kroger has some delicious buttermilk biscuits in the frozen section. Toss some butter in a hot cast iron pan and bake away. No one will know, except my grandmother. You’re welcome.
LOVE IT!!!!!
Good luck on your biscuit venture! I think the frozen biscuits are far superior to any I could bake, so I’ll leave it to the little dough boy and keep the flour off my countertops!
